Helen wanted to pursue a career in law since childhood, because she was drawn to the idea of serving justice, and being able to help people with her own abilities. Throughout university her passion for law grew stronger as she studied more about law and how it applies to our society. Now, she is driven by the fact that she can help others by understanding their needs, solving their problems, and working alongside businesses.
Before starting at Gaze Burt as our newest law clerk, Helen worked as a communication consultant at Spark and as a brand ambassador/marketing assistant whilst studying full-time. After completing her studies, she gained a position as a law clerk in a small boutique firm in Takapuna which specialised in property law. This was a good experience for her, but as she wanted to develop her career as a commercial lawyer, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity at Gaze Burt. She was “…driven by Gaze Burt’s Christian heritage and the values and reputation of the firm. It was very exciting as I had not seen any other law firms emphasising seeing “law differently”, and these values aligned with my own”.
Helen has completed her Bachelors of LLB/Commerce conjoint (double major in marketing and management) and her professional studies. She’ll be admitted to the bar in October.
Helen is a fluent Korean speaker and is happy to assist our Korean clients with enquiries or translation if required.
“I am very happy to be part of a supportive team here at Gaze Burt and enjoy the idea of learning all the different aspects of law, especially commercial law. Everything is new to me at the moment and I am very grateful to the firm for giving me the opportunity to get hands-on experience in all the different areas of law that Gaze Burt provides.”
Outside of work, Helen enjoys watching movies and travelling. She volunteers as a youth mentor every Sunday, interacting with people by listening to their stories. She loves snowboarding and other outdoor activities when she has the time.
