After attending Takapuna Grammar School, Bruce commenced employment with ANZ Bank in 1956. He resigned in 1964 to study law, he entered his father’s practice of F E Westbrooke, Solicitor in Devonport as a Legal Executive. In 1972 Bruce obtained his qualification and then entered into partnership. The business became known as F E Westbrooke & Son. Following the death of F E Westbrooke in 1974, Bruce continued practicing as a sole practitioner until his son Brian joined as a partner 1997. The Westbrookes’ practice merged with Gaze Burt in 2003. Bruce continues to work with his clients who have followed him to Gaze Burt. Bruce has developed a special interest in commercial and industrial property. He is also involved in management and as director of several companies.
Bruce has been the Treasurer of the Devonport Yacht Club for 25 years and a life member since 1976. He has also been involved in the Scout movement for 25 years, holding various positions at Committee and Commissioner Level. The last appointment was Assistant Area Commissioner Auckland being responsible for the area from Devonport to Wellsford.
Some of Bruce’s other community involvement includes being solicitor for the Riding for the Disabled North Shore Group Incorporated for 25 years and as solicitor and trustee of North Shore RDA Charitable Trust since its formation in 1999.
Bruce is also Patron of the North Shore Scout Gang Show and a member of the East Coast Bays Rotary Club.
Bruce’s other interests include travel, walking and swimming.
