Andrew specialises in employment law. He has experience in representing clients at all levels of New Zealand’s specialist employment institutions (including Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court). He has been attorney for numerous overseas and New Zealand based companies, individuals and charitable organisations in the area of employment law.
Entities Andrew has advised or acted for in the area of employment law include: an Indian IT company; a multi-national recruitment company; a travel agency which operates in more than 4 countries; one of the fastest growing churches in New Zealand in recent years; a number of respected national franchise systems; as well as numerous smaller enterprises, and individuals.
Mediation plays a key role in employment law in New Zealand. It is also an important feature of franchise dispute resolution, which is another of Andrew’s specialist areas. Andrew has represented clients in mediations in diverse fields including business disputes, employment relations, franchising, information technology, professional obligations, land law, company disputes, care of children, relationship property and defamation.
Andrew is accredited as a mediator with LEADR. He has mediated a number of disputes, with very positive feedback from participants. He is also on the Mediation panels of the Franchise Association of New Zealand and resolve. Andrew's formal mediation training included a week of intensive mediation practice in Hong Kong, under the tutelage of David Newton of the Accord Group. Accord Group mediation training has been accredited by Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia, UK Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Law Society of England and Wales and UK General Council of the Bar, Law Society of New South Wales, Bar Association of New South Wales, Victorian Bar Association, South Australian Law Society, Western Australian Dispute Resolution Service, The Law Institute of Victoria and Queensland Law Society, as an accredited mediation course.
Andrew also has a solid base of experience in commercial litigation (up to and including the Court of Appeal) and family law (with emphasis on relationship property work).
Andrew has been interviewed on radio and TV on aspects of employment law and mediation. He has authored articles on employment law which have been published in the Accountants’ Journal and NZ Baptist newspaper.
He serves as an Elder of Ngaire Avenue Bible Chapel, a member of Stewards’ Trust and Stewards’ Foundation, and a member of Laidlaw Foundation.
